Lucy Tyler

Performance maker, dramaturg, writer

Lucy creates work exploring artistic research in performance. She graduated with a PhD in Theatre from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and an MPhil in Playwriting from the University of Birmingham. For fifteen years, she has worked with devised, ensemble and playwriting practices. Lucy has been an associate artist at theatres including Soho, and her plays have been presented at the Hampstead Theatre, Southbank Centre, Origin Theater in New York, and Georgetown Theater. She has been resident at studios including Meantime, and has collaborated with ensembles such as Companhia Antropofágica in Brazil. As a creative reader, she has worked for Script and the Tobacco Factory, and as a dramaturg in a wide range of contexts. In her role as Associate Professor of Performance Practices at the University of Reading, she produces a project, Work in Progress, with South Street Arts Centre, that seed-funds and facilitates new performance.

Lucy is interested in processual activities, and how artistic research and development materialises in performance. She practises an expanded dramaturgy that reframes the creative process through embedded observation, reflection, and documentation. Lucy offers dramaturgical support to playwrights and makers, but is also keen to collaborate with artists from different disciplines wishing to develop and reflect upon their making.
