'Feel' (Circumlocution 6) by Emma Souter/2018

This work translates the hard to express, where verbal communication 'feels' inhibited, hard, complex or futile and is created through abstract expressionism. A ‘circumlocution’ is a form of round about speech which although not direct, slowly reveals information which can be hard to define simply; a processes looking to be distil thoughts. Looking for stillness is not a still process, it comes from the action itself. Part of a series of two-handed drawings, created without looking, it was only by ‘circumlocution 6’ towards the end of the drawing process that Emma worked with her eyes open.
