Julie Maunder

Painter, Designer

With over 25 years of experience as an interior designer working across the UK and internationally, she brings a thoughtful, intuitive sensitivity to space, materiality and composition. Now 62, she continues to run her private interior design practice while developing an emerging visual art practice rooted in abstraction and textural exploration.

Her work centres on the physicality of materials: layering, scraping, building and revealing surfaces. She is drawn to the tension between control and spontaneity, allowing instinct and curiosity to guide the process. This approach echoes her long-standing attentiveness to light, balance and spatial harmony, while opening space for experimentation and emotional expression.

She is now expanding her practice onto larger canvases. Having worked within diverse cultural and architectural contexts, she brings a broad visual awareness and an openness to dialogue, exchange and shared learning.

Sociable and community‑minded, she is actively involved in the Wallingford community and is a member of Wallingford Rowing Club. She values creative environments where artists support one another, offering connection, momentum and a sense of belonging as practices evolve.
