Laura Murphy

Ceramics

Laura uses a combination of slip-casting and slip-forming to create a distinct effect in the work she creates. The subtle variations in each item are introduced as part of the making process. This ensures that each piece is unique even if they start from the same pattern or decoration technique. Laura takes time and care with each individual item to ensure that the finished result feels incredibly tactile.

She feels that she has always had an affinity with nature.” As a child I would stop on a path to examine the intricate patterns on a leaf or look at the sunlight shining through a droplet of dew on a spiders web”. Her interest in the miniscule detail and the way that nature can create seemingly random patterns with an underlying purpose has followed her throughout life and now manifests in the work that she creates.

As well as ceramic art, Laura creates contemporary homeware pieces available through her website. The colours she uses represent movement patterns through rural landscapes, such as a swallows flight or grasses in the breeze.

Commissions taken and tuition available.
