Robert Pickford - Pottery

Bob creates vases, bowls, jugs and bottle forms, working mostly in one‑off pieces that are either smoke‑fired or glazed. His ideas grow from a wide range of influences, ultimately rooted in the shapes, forms, textures, lines and colours found in nature, historical objects and the world around us. He is particularly drawn to the unpredictable, incidental surface effects created by fire and smoke, and often lets these natural processes guide the final character of a piece.

Alongside functional forms, Bob also develops ceramic sculptural work, exploring how surface, structure and firing techniques can shift a piece from the familiar into something more expressive and atmospheric. Each pot reflects his curiosity about materials, processes and the quiet stories held in handmade objects.
