Amy Hughes
Mixed Media Artist
Amy is a mixed‑media artist whose work moves between vibrant abstract florals and sculptural folded‑paper pieces made from repurposed Waitrose magazines. Working mainly in acrylics, she’s known for expressive colour, layered mark‑making and a strong sense of movement inspired by the natural world. Her paper works reflect a commitment to sustainability, transforming discarded pages into carefully constructed forms.
After studying Graphic Design with a focus on illustration, Amy spent a decade in marketing before returning to hands‑on making in her home studio in central Wallingford. This shift renewed her attention to materials, texture and process. She describes her approach as “considered, not controlled,” balancing intuition with thoughtful composition.
Alongside her studio practice, Amy is Associate Coordinator at Ayres House Studios and co‑founded the Textile Hub, a collaborative group of makers working across diverse textile techniques. The hub’s spirit of experimentation, shared knowledge and material curiosity continues to shape and energise her own work.
